The Chester River Press seeks an experienced artist to illustrate a fine letterpress
limited edition publication of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey.
The two volume set will be presented in Homeric Greek with the Alexander Pope English translation.
The illustrations are to be rendered full page using the theme of black figure Greek vase paintings,
and should be accurate renditions of the various vases found in the Homeric period. Each illustration
will be accompanied by a brief but informative description/discussion of the history and significance
of the particular vase style, thus requiring accurate renditions.
Approximately 50 full page illustrations are anticipated.
Qualifications include strong knowledge of, and working familiarity with,
the Iliad and Odyssey, and of Greek painting and drawing of the period.
This project is scheduled to commence in June, 2008 and be completed by the end of September, 2008.
This is not an ‘in-residence’ position. Please send
inquiries to our e mail address or our regular mail address as shown
below.
Letters of interest should include your resume, a sample of work, and compensation requirements.
Inquires and letters of interest should be received prior to May 31, 2008.
